Non-Destructive Testing

MAGNETIC PARTICLE INSPECTION

Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) is a non destructive testing method used for examining a ferrous metal's surface and near surface defects. It makes use of an externally applied magnetic field or half wave DC (rectified AC) current through the material, and the principle that the magnetic susceptability of a defect is markedly poorer than that of the surrounding material. In a dark room using black light the defect will appear much brighter than the surrounding material and it is detected.

ULTRASONIC TESTING

ATRONA has Ultrasonic Testing Capabilities utilized for non-destructive testing and examination to determine subsurface defects in metallic materials. We have various probes and standards for set up to be used for various shapes and sizes of components and raw material.

REAL TIME X-RAY

Real Time X-Ray is conducted at ATRONA on relatively small components. It is typically used for the electronics industry where switch and sensor examination and testing is needed. With the increased use of BGA, Flup-Chip, and Leadless devices, circuit assemblers need something other than traditional x-ray to screen for defects. We can offer real time detection of open circuits, insufficient solder, voids, wire breakage, and other defects.

FIELD EXAMINATION

ATRONA conducts field examination and testing on a routine basis. If you have a concern with a part or a system or a failure that is too large to send to a lab or if you are in need of non-destructive examination right on-site call us and we will be happy to discuss your needs. MATERIAL PROPERTIES

ATRONA can perform non-destructive testing on your component to determine some of its physical and chemical properties. We can even inspect the microstructure with non-destructive testing. Some components are either too expensive to destroy, too large, or too difficult to make and they require inspection or testing through non destructive means. Call us to discuss what we can do to inspect your part without having to destroy it. In some cases reverse engineering may be required without destroying the part. There are specific tests that can be performed to determine the material type and its heat treat condition without destroying it. LIQUID DYE TESTING

ATRONA is accredited to perform LDP testing. Liquid Dye Penetrant testing is conducted at ATRONA as a tool for failure analysis. We also perform this type of NDT procedure on production components to determine surface indications on non-magnetic steels and non-ferrous alloys. Testing is conducted in accordance with ASTM E165.
