Optical Emission Spectroscopy - OES TestingOptical Emission Spectroscopy: ASTM E415 - ATRONA has two (2) spectrometers capable of conducting compositional chemical analysis on various metals and alloys including: 1- Plain Carbon Steels 2- Low Alloy Steels 3- Stainless Steels 4- Tool Steels 5- Cast Irons 6- Zinc Based Alloys 7- Nickel Based Alloys 8- Copper and its alloys 9- Aluminum and its alloys 10- Other metals and alloys. We have other methods to determine chemical composition of materials depending on size and shape of the sample. With about 30 grams of weight we can melt the sample (chips, wire, rings, etc.) in our remelt furnace with Argon gas to prevent decarburization and scale and produce a "button" sample that can then be ground and tested.

Combustion Analyzer: Carbon and Sulfur can be analyzed per ASTM E1019 using LECO Carbon Sulfur combustion determinator. All steels contain carbon and sulfur. Carbon is added for hardness and strength while sulfur can be a contaminant in some steels and added on purpose in others to help with machinability as the case in free cutting steels. This test method can verify and determine the carbon and sulfur content and is considered the final authority on accuracy of weight percent of these elements.

ICP: Inductively Coupled Plasma is one of our in house capabilities and a test method that is powerful and popular for its accuracy. We can also perform Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS) on very small samples, even if it is a fragment of a chip that can hardly be seen.

Trace Metal Analysis: ATRONA can determine and identify trace elements in a wide range of materials and samples. Trace metals analysis is available to parts per million (ppm), parts per billion (ppb), and even parts per trillion (ppt) detection levels depending on metal sample.
