Chemical Analysis Lab

Fast, affordable chemical analysis.

ATRONA CAN ANALYZE AND IDENTIFY ANY TYPE OF METAL OR METAL ALLOY - REGARDLESS OF SAMPLE SIZE.

ATRONA Test Labs offers fast, affordable chemical analysis of all types of metal and metal alloys. Let us help assure that the composition of the metal you are using makes it appropriate for its intended end use. Using state-of-the-art equipment and methods, our experienced techs can analyze your sample and determine its type and chemical composition, regardless of sample size - findings which will be reported to you with a reference chart that provides a breakdown of all main elements by percentage.

Metal Chemical Analysis using EDS

ATRONA maintains a library of standards in our chemical laboratory traceable to NIST and is capable of verifying the technique and instrument. No matter what your material is, we can test it. No matter what shape, we can anneal, flatten, remelt or grind your sample if needed. Using Optical Emission Spectroscopy (OES), we can work with sample sizes as small as 30 grams of weight; however other methods, such as Energy Dispersive X-Ray Spectroscopy (EDS), enable us to examine sample sizes so small they are difficult to see with the human eye. We can also determine the composition of most non-metals too, including polymers.

ATRONA’s chemical analysis methods include:

Spectromax OESOPTICAL EMISSION SPECTROSCOPY (OES): Per ASTM E415, E1086, E1999, and E1251 - ATRONA has two (2) Spectrometers capable of conducting compositional chemical analysis on various metals and alloys including:

  • Plain Carbon Steels
  • Low Alloy Steels
  • Stainless Steels
  • Tool Steels
  • Maraging Steels
  • Titanium Alloys
  • High Strength Specialty Alloys
  • Nickel Base Alloys
  • Copper Base Alloys
  • Aluminum Base Alloys
  • Zinc Base Alloys
  • Magnesium Base Alloys
  • Cast Irons
  • And more!

ENERGY DISPERSIVE X-RAY SPECTROSCOPY (EDS): At ATRONA we have two full SEM/EDS systems. One of these systems features cutting edge technology in the field of microscopy giving us an advantage with clear imaging and EDS mapping capabilities. Virtually any size sample can be examined with EDS, even if it is a fragment of a chip that can hardly be seen.

Our Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy technology is capable of:

  • Qualitative analysis
  • Quantitative analysis
  • Smart element matching
  • High CPS for high resolution scanning and mapping
  • Fast and accurate plots of elemental distributions
