Environmental Testing

HOW WILL YOUR PRODUCTS STAND UP TO THE ELEMENTS?

Testing for Corrosion ResistanceATRONA’s Salt Spray Testing Chamber enables us to test the corrosive impact of environmental conditions on components and products in a laboratory setting. Corrosion resistance is a key factor in extending the service life of fasteners, parts, components, assemblies, and even finished products that will be exposed to marine or other harsh conditions, including environmental cycles with high and/or low temperatures, moisture, or chemicals; or even just room temperature. With ATRONA’s Salt Spray Testing Chamber and testing per ASTM B117 and other recognized standards, we can simulate these conditions in a controlled laboratory environment and predict the likely result of even years of exposure to any form of weathering conditions within a relatively short time frame.

ATRONA's Salt Spray Testing Chamber (pictured) enables us to test the corrosive impact of environmental conditions on components and products in a laboratory setting.

Salt Spray (Salt Fog) Testing is often used to evaluate two or more materials and is ideal for comparing the performance of different metals or metal alloys, surface coatings or plating, solder or welding compounds, or even non-metallic materials, such as polymers and wood. ATRONA also offers adhesion testing per your specifications; as well as scribe testing in which a metal test surface is artificially damaged and the scratch penetrates the coating to expose the metallic substrate.

Testing duration varies depending upon the type of test and materials and coatings tested, etc., but generally runs from 24 hours to 720 hours (30 days), or sometimes longer. For longer tests, interim inspections can be performed over the duration of exposure and documented in a report with photographs. ATRONA is not only accredited to perform Salt Fog Testing, we can also assess the results and provide more than just a visual analysis. We can provide quantitative measurements and even chemical composition of issues at the surface as they develop to help you determine why premature failure took place and consult on solutions. In short, you will get more than just a report, you will get insight. Ask us for a quote.
