ATRONA can perform non-destructive testing on your component to determine some of its physical and chemical properties. We can even inspect the microstructure with non-destructive testing. Some components are either too expensive to destroy, too large, or too difficult to make and they require inspection or testing through non-destructive means. Call us to discuss what we can do to inspect your part without having to destroy it. In some cases reverse engineering may be required without destroying the part. There are specific tests that can be performed to determine the material type and its heat treat condition without destroying it. TEST METHODS: We have various tools and instruments that can be used including:
EDS: Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy to determine chemical composition, identify a contaminant, or identify a coating type.
HARDNESS: With various portable hardness testing instruments we can determine the surface hardness and in some cases the case depth without cutting the part.
SURFACE ANALYSIS: Using stereoscopes, portable microscopes, liquid dye and magnetic particle inspection we can determine the surface condition.
SUBSURFACE ISSUES: Using ultrasonic testing we can determine subsurface indications.
MICROSTRUCTURE: Using portable polishing techniques and equipment and special replicating media and material we can extract the microstructure from the region of interest on the part and perform laboratory microstructure analysis or etch the sample right there and use portable microscope with photography.
