Coating Analysis:

ATRONA Test Labs is capable of performing full analysis on many types of coatings and platings including plating thickness measurements and chemical composition analysis of the plating chemistry. Here is a list of issues related to coatings that we can assist you with:

Any plating or coating thickness can be measured using image analysis and measurements reported with photomicrographs. This will insure proper compliance with thickness specification and the consistency of this coating thickness in various locations on the same part. This is typically performed through destructive testing by metallography, however, if the coating thickness is too thin to measure at 1000X using a microscope we can perform thickness measurements using the scanning electron microscope at magnifications close to 100,000X. Some coatings consist of multiple layers. We can perform measurements of those layers and scan the individual layers and color code them for chemical composition identification.
